Philippines: Gocons
We are so thankful that Super Typhoon Goni avoided Metro-Manila with its 15 million inhabitants. But, it hit Southern Luzon with a vengeance and seems to have broken the record for the strongest ever typhoon recorded, passing up Typhoon Haiyan which hit the Philippines in 2013. Over a million people, some say 3 million, were affected and thousands left homeless. Amazingly, only 26 were killed, though some are still missing from floods caused by lahar (volcanic mudflows) coming down the active volcano Mt. Mayon. More than 300 houses were buried. Electricity is out in Southern Luzon and won't be restored until Christmas! Read More.
