Vietnam: Reflecting on Marriage & Family Seminar

I never thought I had a gift for teaching on the subject of marriage and family. Due to the increasing needs of the churches and various classes, I began to spend time preparing short sermons and then studying marriage. After a few times of preaching and teaching, I started to become more interested and fond of this topic.


What made me even more confident in teaching about marriage was not the increase in knowledge, but the increase and enrichment of my marital experience. I belong to an ethnic minority in Central Highland of Vietnam that speaks a completely different language from


Vietnamese (Kinh), my wife’s people; my culture, geography, and customs differ from hers. About 20 years ago, the social gap between the ethnic groups in the Central Highlands and the Kinh people was very large, making our marriage quite unique. Although both of us use Vietnamese as a national language, it does not mean we always understand each other. The first three years of our marriage were full of challenges, conflicts, and ups and downs. We both learned that maintaining the “oneness” of marriage is what brings happiness in marriage.
